Charles Lewis Hahn

September 9, 1925 - July 14, 2014

Charles Lewis Hahn, 88, died on July 14, 2014. He was born on September 9, 1925 in Vermilion, Ohio the eldest of three children to Edward C. and Alma Hahn.

Charles is preceded in death by his brother William, and survived by his sister, Martha Wright of Berlin Heights, OH. He married Edith Marie Elliott in 1949 and together they raised six children.

Charles worked as a professional engineer for the State of Ohio Department of Natural Resources for 37 years in the field of water management. He was an active member of Hilliard United Methodist Church, TBDBITL Alumni Band, Kiwanis, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and the Ohio Academy of Science. He was recognized as a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honorary society and the American Society of Professional Engineers. Charles served in the US Navy during World War II as ATM Second Class Electronics Technician in the Pacific Theater.

Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edith; six children, Kathleen (Stephen) Gendler, Jeffrey (Shonda) Hahn, Anita (Robert) Shoup, Clifford (Doreen) Hahn, Craig (Debra) Hahn and Gary (Kathleen Purcell) Hahn; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and counting. Family will receive friends Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 1-4 pm at the Tidd Family Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

To paraphrase Charles, he was the best husband and father we ever had (as well as grandfather and great grandfather)!

Charles was a member of the marching band in 1947 through 1950. He played baritone and tenor horn.
