Steven Stuart Bovia
November 14, 1946 - June 22, 2022
Steven S. Bovia, 75, of Greenwich, entered into eternal life Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 14, 1946, in Port Clinton. He grew up in Sandusky and graduated from SHS in 1964.
In college Steve played in the Ohio State Marching Band and learned to fly in ROTC. He graduated OSU with a degree in Social Work. Upon graduation, he was commissioned to 1st Lt. in the US Army and served in The Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot. Steve was instrumental in starting The Alcohol Center of Huron County; was the circulation Manager at the Norwalk Reflector and later a mail processor at the Mansfield USPS. A man of strong Christian faith, he was the author of 4 books written under the name of Jonah. He served on Greenwich Village Council for 8 years and was a member of the Greenwich American Legion Color Guard. He enjoyed woodworking and playing golf with family members but especially his friends Ron, Ira and John. Steve was a grateful member for 45 years in AA, sharing his experience, strength and hope to anyone. He loved spending time with his family.
Steve is survived by his wife, Gayle M. (Kraus) Bovia, whom he married September 29, 1966; 4 children, Rolland (Angela R.) Bovia of Norwalk, Patrick (Robyn) Bovia of Shelby, Angela D. Bovia of Lexington, and Jonathan (Tracey) Bovia of Lansford, North Dakota; 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, with 1 on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rolland C. and Dorothy Bovia.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon, Saturday, June 25, 2022, with services beginning at noon at the Greenwich United Methodist Church, 18 East Main Street, Greenwich with Pastor John Grimm officiating. Military rites will be held at the church being conducted by the Greenwich American Legion. Steven was a member of the marching band in the late 1960s.
