Kirk Alan Cross
July 25, 1937 – April 30, 2024
Kirk Alan Cross was born on July 25, 1937 at the Fort Hayes Army Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Kirk passed away on April 30, 2024 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his father Walter E. Cross Sr. (US Army Retired), his mother Marjorie P. Cross (Kirkendall) and his brother Walter E. Cross Jr.
He is survived by his loving companion and best friend for 60 years Judy L. Cross (Wemlinger) in Hilliard, Ohio; their daughter Karen C. Cross in Independence, Missouri; son Alan L. Cross, daughter in-law Traci L. Cross (Hildreth) and the joy of his life, granddaughter Megan A. Cross, in Hilliard Ohio. He is also survived by brother in-law, sisters in-law, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kirk was a life-time church member of the Community of Christ and served 30 plus years as a volunteer and then a paid minister. He held the priesthood offices of priest, elder, high priest and bishop.
After leaving college he worked as a time auditor at Rockwell International. He then started a 29 year career at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company as a computer operator. While there he also held the positions of computer operator trainer, problem management section and TEMS programmer. He retired in 1999.
Kirk attended The Ohio State University, and while there he was a member of the symphonic choir, men’s glee club and marching band (TBDBITL). After leaving OSU he continued to be a part of the TBDBITL alumni active band. He served as treasurer, vice-president and president of the alumni band club. He was the recipient of the Most Inspirational Bandsman and the Script Ohio awards. He served on the committee for the annual TBDBITL alumni reunion for 28 years.

A visitation for Kirk will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43223.
Kirk was a member of the marchng band from 1955 through 1957. He played Cymbals.
In addition to serving on the TBDBITL Board and holding the offices of Vice President and Treasurer, Kirk also held the office of President in 1985. Kirk was the Reunion Pre-Registration Chair for many years. In 1982, Kirk was named "Elvin Donaldon Most Inspirational Bandsman" and in 1994 he received the Script Ohio Award.
