Daniel John Eck
February 26, 1972 - February 16, 2025
Daniel John Eck, 52, almost 53 in a week, of Mechanicsburg, passed away unexpectedly, as a result of a heart attack on February 16, 2025, at the Memorial Hospital in Marysville.
Dan was born on February 26, 1972, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The son of Emery John and Marian (Walden) Eck.
Dan graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 1990 before earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting from The Ohio State University in 1995. Dan dedicated 30 years to his career at EY as an Executive Director, where he was highly respected for his work ethic and integrity. They often requested Dan and his money jacket for financial planning workshops.
Dan was a passionate sports fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Bearcats, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Columbus Crew. He also had a deep love for disc golf, even designing and building his own 12-hole disc golf course, in his backyard. Outside of the course, Dan enjoyed attending Broadway shows with his daughter, Lily, going to Studio 35 and Magnolia record store with his daughter, Violet, and he loved to teach life lessons, pick on and make jokes with his daughter, Hannah. He made sure all his daughters knew how to do percentage math for tipping purposes and quizzing them on times tables and state capitals. You could often find him cleaning and organizing. He is a lover of all things Star Wars, Queen and his Smurf collection. He loved Jolly Pirates Donuts, BW3’s and could always be found with a Full Throttle energy drink in hand.
Dan’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially his beloved daughters. He was the ultimate provider and took pride in supporting his loved ones. His commitment to his family extended beyond just being present; he showed up for every one of his daughters’ competitions, always cheering them on. Above all else, Dan was devoted to his wife, the love of his life, whom he met at the flagpole in the “Horseshoe”. On October 11, 2003, Dan and his wife became the first couple ever to marry at the iconic OSU stadium, at the same flagpole where they first met.
Dan was a man with a big heart, always generous with his time and love. He touched the lives of everyone he met and was a friend to many. He had a passion for community service, dedicating much of his time to serving others. Dan was a founding member of the Reynoldsburg Community Band, which he also served as the treasurer. He also served as the treasurer for the TBDBITL alumni club “The Best Damn Band in the Land”. He was actively involved in the Mechanicsburg community. As the current Fiscal Officer for the village of Mechanicsburg, Dan was committed to improving his community. Through the efforts of “Our Towne Mechanicsburg”, he was known for organizing parades and local celebrations, affectionately earning the nickname “The green hat parade guy.” Whether it was coordinating the Summer Celebration, Christmas in the Village, or fireworks displays, Dan’s dedication to his community was unwavering.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Sherry Lynn Barr Eck; his parents; daughters, Lily Nicole Eck, Violet Caroline Eck, Hannah Briann Arnold; sisters, Brenda (Bryan) Dann, Debra (Pete) Disalvo; brothers, Jim (Alison) Eck, Steven (Tonya) Eck; as well as lots and lots of nieces and nephews; Along with his dog, Luke and cat, Maple.
