Kenneth Granville
May 27, 1940 - October 1, 2023
Kenneth Granville, age 83, of Streetsboro passed away October 1, 2023. Ken was born and raised in Uhrichsville where he graduated from Uhrichsville High School.
After high school, Ken marched with TBDBITL, The Ohio State University Marching Band, before receiving his Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. He was a founding member of Kent State's Sigma Chi Fraternity chapter.
Ken worked for Streetsboro City Schools as band director for 30 years.
After retirement, Ken continued to share his love of music by teaching instrumental music at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School Akron and Seton Catholic School in Hudson. Ken brought joy to many, playing euphonium with the Western Reserve Community Band and Heavy Metal: A Low Brass Trio with friends Ray Harcar and Sam Mayes.
He was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Parish where he was a lector. Along with his late wife Nancy, he was a member of the Portage County Retired Teachers Association.
Preceded in death by his wives, Nancy (2022) and Mae (1972); parents, Charles and Sarah; sister, Thyra; Ken is survived by children Ken (Linda), Robert (Jennifer), and Sarah; grandchildren Kyle (Johnna), Brad (Maria Seffrin), Zachery, Alexander, and Abigail; and many family members, friends and students.
Memorial calling hours will be from 4 - 6 PM Friday, October 27, 2023 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. A memorial service will be held at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Parish in Streetsboro at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 28, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the Charles Ross Walker Scholarship Fund established by The Zeta Lambda Foundation. This can be done via the Zeta Lambda Foundation website (zetalambdafoundation.com) or by mailing a check to the Zeta Lambda Foundation (6131 Baneberry Dr. Westerville, OH 43082). This scholarship is awarded to student leaders at Kent State University who are members of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Ken was a member of the marching band in 1958. He played Baritone in M-Row.
