Dana Ross Kimes

August 8, 1946 - September 26, 2024

Dana Ross Kimes, cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away in Minneapolis on September 26, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on August 8, 1946, he was the son of the late Evelyn (Sourwine) Kimes and was preceded in death by his sisters, Deborah Kimes and Kathy Rohr.

Dana graduated from Ontario High School and pursued his passion for music at The Ohio State University as a proud member of TBDBITL Marching Band while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. In the early to mid-1970s, he shared his love of music as a band director in Wellington, Ohio, creating lasting memories and friendships with his students and colleagues.

A natural socialite, Dana later moved to Chicago, where he thrived as a flight attendant for American Airlines. His vibrant personality and genuine curiosity about people allowed him to connect with countless individuals, making every day an adventure. Earlier in 2024, Dana relocated to Minnesota to be closer to his family.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Sharon Kimes, and his adoring grandchildren, Kaden (16), Chloe (13), and Atlee (10). Dana leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and his passion for model trains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio State University Marching Band’s Script Ohio Club, honoring Dana’s dedication to music and education.

Dana was a member of the marching band from 1966 through 1969. He played Baritone.
