Michael Eugene Mount

March 6, 1947 - January 29, 2014

Dr. Michael "Mick" Eugene Mount died of natural causes at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the age of 66.

A service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, February 8, at Calvary Baptist Church, 506 Cottonwood St., Woodland. Another memorial will be held at a later date in Ohio.

Mick was born March 6, 1947 in Tiffin, Ohio, to Eugene and Letha Mount.

Mick was an associate professor at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine for 27 years. He loved teaching. He practiced both large and small veterinary medicine in private and university settings. He completed his doctorate of veterinary medicine at Ohio State, and PhD in veterinary toxicology at Kansas State. He later studied traditional Chinese veterinary medicine at the Chi Institute through University of Florida. Following retirement in 2007, he continued his education and practice in alternative veterinary work, applying new technology such as cold laser treatment, herbal and chiropractic care.

As a young boy, Mick developed a love for farm life at his grandpa Miller's farm. He was active in Boy Scouts, achieving Eagle Scout. He was a talented drummer with the Columbian High band, and went on to play bass drum for four years in the Ohio State Marching Band, a highlight of his life.

He was an active member of Bayside Woodland Church and played drums with local worship teams over the years. Mick's faith in Jesus Christ was central to his life. He made sure people knew the source of truth and hope in his life.

Mick is survived by his wife, Gail, of 40 years; and his four children: Christy (and Brett Watson), Misty (and Tim MacIsaac), Melinda; his son, James; four grandchildren Kaya, Kieran, Keegan and Zeke; his sister, Janeen (and Rich Lust); and nephew, Zach (and Kelly Lust) of Colorado; and many wonderful cousins and friends.

A man who literally marched to his own drum beat, our dad, husband, grandfather, brother, cousin, vet, friend, dreamer, lover of truth and knowledge, he will be greatly missed.

Michael was a member of the marching band in 1969 through 1972. He played bass drum.
