Frank Joseph Pendergrass III
October 13, 1936 - May 13, 2020
Frank Joseph Pendergrass III, 83, peacefully entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on May 13, 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio. Frank was born October 13, 1936 in West Virginia to the late Frank and Virginia (nee Johnson) Pendergrass Jr. After the passing of his first wife Louise Argenziano-Pendergrass in 1983, he was blessed to find love again in Marilyn J. Halsak (nee Buran). In 1986 they began 34 loving years together.
Frank graduated from The Ohio State University in 1958 with a degree in music education, boldly to continue at Kent State University to obtain his Master's Degree in instrumental music education in 1968. Throughout Frank's life he had many accomplishments, including being a freelance trombonist/musician/arranger and an instrumental music educator. He will be remembered for his dedication and contributions to the Bay Village music program. Throughout his tenure he directed the Bay High Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble; the 30 piece Pit Orchestra for the annual Broadway Spring Musical, the Bay Middle School Bands (grades 5-8) and Bay Middle School Orchestra. He served as Assistant Band Director of the Bay High Marching Band under the direction of Rowland Hosmer. Frank's strong love of music was rivaled only by one thing, the overwhelming love and admiration he had for his family. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, attending jazz clubs and walking his loyal Kerry Blue Terrier "Monk".
Those left to cherish the memories of Frank are his beloved wife, Marilyn J. Pendergrass; step-daughters, Noreen (Bill) Kyle (nee Halsak) Nicole (Harry) Yaacoubian (nee Halsak); grandchildren Bryan and Jack Kyle, Nicholas and Chris Yaacoubian. He is also survived by his brothers in-law Frank and Jim (Randie) Argenziano and nephew Dana James Argenziano.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations be made in Frank's name to Kemper House Memory Care Fund at 10890 Prospect Rd, Strongsville, Ohio 44149 or Bay Music Boosters at http://baymusicboosters.com/ to keep Frank's dream alive.
A private interment will be held for the family with a celebration of Frank's life to be held at a later date.
Frank was a member of the marching band from 1955 through 1957 and played trombone.
