F. Howard Pierce Jr.
October 24, 1937 - November 30, 2015
Howard Pierce was born in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of F. Howard and Dorothy Zink Pierce, graduating from Steubenville "Big Red" High School in 1955. He went on to The Ohio State University where he earned a B. S. degree in Business with a major in Advertising and where he was a proud member of the Ohio State University Marching Band ('55 - '57).
After a six month stint in the Army, he spent his early career in advertising with Ohio Bell in Akron and Ketchum, McLeod & Grove Advertising Agency in Pittsburgh. He moved into the insurance field in 1962, working for Connecticut General and the Aetna insurance companies. He moved to Hudson in 1972, opening his own insurance business, The Pierce Company, in 1975.
Howard Pierce was proud of raising funds for the first Hudson Emergency Medical Service, and helping to outfit it's first ambulance. He was a longtime member of The Country Club of Hudson, Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson Rotary, and a founding member of the Rotary of Hudson Clocktower, serving as its first president. Perhaps his greatest joy came from his involvement over many years with the Great Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Council Commissioner for 19 years.
He is survived by his wife Lynne, sons Howdy (Aileen) Pierce of Boulder, Colorado, and Doug (Teresa) Pierce, of Tarrytown, New York, and grandchildren: Jules and Lindsay Pierce; and Adrien and Brice Pierce.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Great Trail Council, BSA , 1601 South Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44301 or The Hudson United Methodist Church. Friends will be received on Saturday. from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon December 5, 2015 at Johnson Romito Funeral Home 19 East Main Street, Hudson, Ohio 44146, A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 5, 2015 at The Hudson United Methodist Church 2600 Hudson-Aurora Road, Hudson, Ohio. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in Steubenville, on Sunday December 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
Howard was a member of the marching band from 1955 through 1958. He played Efer.
