John Robert Thayer

January 12, 1929 - November 17, 2016

John R. Thayer, 87 of Loveland, passed away at the Centre Avenue Health & Rehab in Fort Collins on Thursday, November 17, 2016.

John was born in Lancaster, Ohio on January 12, 1929 to Harold and Emma (Dobeas) Thayer. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1946, and in 1951 John graduated from The Ohio State University receiving a degree in electrical engineering. While at OSU John was a member of the marching band and later participated in the alumni band.

John met and later married Betty Wise and they were married in her family home in rural Licking County, Ohio on May 2, 1953.

John served in the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Japan and worked in radar maintenance. He later obtained a Commercial Pilot License and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

John was an electrical engineer for the Lancaster, Ohio Diamond Power Specialty Corporation. In Lancaster, John was an active church member and assisted with the physical facilities.

John and Betty moved to Loveland, Colorado from Lancaster, Ohio in 1994. They became active members of Mountain View Presbyterian Church. While residing in Loveland, John helped with the church's physical facilities, was a member of Kiwanis, and played in the New Horizons Band. Five times he was the oldest participant and part of 3 generations in the Fort Collins Tuba Christmas performance.

John and Betty loved to travel and had been in all fifty states and Canadian provinces.

Betty predeceased February 23, 2012. Daughter-in-Law Carol Thayer predeceased on August 23, 2016. John is survived by sons Dean Thayer of Stow, OH, Larry (Ellen) Thayer of Fort Collins, Colorado, daughter Linda (Ron) Larson of Fort Collins, grandchildren Kyle (Kristen) Thayer of Seattle, Washington, Jessica (Mike) Wang of Temple City, California, Brian Larson of Fort Collins, Nathan Larson of Fort Collins, and two great granddaughters.

Cremation has been completed. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Loveland, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 2500 North Garfield, Loveland, Colorado 80538

John was a member of the marching band from 1946 through 1950. He played trombone.
