Roscoe Upton Wright

Roscoe Upton Wright, age 97, resident of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away January 6, 2021. Roscoe was born in Olean, New York to Franklin Miles Wright and Irene Upton Wright on October 9, 1923.
He graduated from Olean High School in 1941. Upon graduation he attended The Ohio State University in 1941 and 1942 until he entered the U.S. Army in World War II. At the University he played E-flat Cornet in The Ohio State University Marching Band and was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, a National Honorary Band Fraternity. During his 3 years of military service he participated in the European Theater of Operations, having landed D-Day with the 5th Engineer Special Brigade on the Omaha Beach in the invasion of Normandy, France and advanced with the U.S. Army to Berlin, Germany. For his service, he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with a Bronze Arrowhead, and Three Bronze Stars. Upon his discharge he returned to the University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1948 with a major in Accounting.
Upon graduation he worked for GMAC as an Internal Auditor for three years until he became one of the original employees of the General Motors Assembly Plant in Arlington, Texas where he worked until retiring as a General Supervisor of Accounting with over thirty years of service. He married Jean Wells on November 15, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas and they lived in Arlington, Texas prior to their moving to Grand Prairie, Texas. After his retirement he continued to work as a Comptroller for several businesses and finally as a Vice President of M Bank Dallas. Roscoe served as President of the Arlington GM Salaried Retirees Club for several years. Roscoe also was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie, the Arlington Masonic Lodge No. 438 (a fifty year member), a 32 degree Mason in the Dallas Scottish Rite, and a member of the Fort Worth Moslah Temple.
Roscoe is preceded in death by his parents, son Ronald, a brother F. John Wright, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Bassinger and her husband Lester. He is survived by his lovely wife, Jean who he married over sixty eight years ago; sons, Russell and wife Michelle of Addison; Mark of Euless; and a daughter, Barbara and her husband, Cliff Calk of Frisco; a grandson, Brian Criswell of Denver, CO and a granddaughter, Carol Wynthein and children of South Dakota, and a niece, Lezlie Snyder and husband Mark of Ingram, Texas.
A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. Service will be officiated by Reverend Kathryn Strempke.
